Sony has rolled out a major update for the PlayStation Portal, enabling users to stream PlayStation 5 titles directly from the cloud. This upgrade redefines the device as a fully independent handheld console rather than just a remote second screen for the PS5.
Previously, the PlayStation Portal could only mirror games from a connected PlayStation 5 through Remote Play over Wi-Fi. With the new cloud integration, users can now stream games straight from Sony’s servers, eliminating the need for a local console.
The update grants players access to hundreds of exclusive titles available in the PlayStation Plus Premium catalog. This offers a console-level experience on the go, powered by the same cloud gaming technology used on consoles and PCs.
The system delivers up to 60 frames per second with adaptive video quality that adjusts dynamically to network strength. Sony has also optimized firmware to lower input latency and enhance DualSense controller feedback, offering smoother gameplay across genres.
“With this update, the Portal is not just a second screen for your PlayStation 5; it has become a completely new independent gaming console.”
Sony’s update transforms the PlayStation Portal into a powerful cloud gaming device, offering full PS5 experiences anywhere with improved speed, visuals, and responsiveness.
