President Dallin H. Oaks announced that Elder Gérald Caussé has been called as the newest member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. He becomes the first Apostle from France and previously served for the past decade as the Church’s presiding bishop.
The calling fills the vacancy created after the passing of President Russell M. Elder Caussé, 62, was ordained on Thursday, November 6, by President Oaks along with members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
Before his call, Elder Caussé was serving as the Church’s presiding bishop. He and his wife, Sister Valérie Caussé, have three children and have lived in several countries including France, Germany, and the United States. Originally from Bordeaux, France, Elder Caussé is the fourth member of the current Quorum born outside the United States.
“I’ve always had a testimony of Jesus Christ. He’s always been at the center of my life. And I know He’s our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful thing it is to be a witness of Christ. That’s the greatest responsibility we can have in life.”
Recently, Elder Caussé addressed young single adults at the annual Utah YSA conference in Salt Lake City. Throughout his leadership, he has often spoken to and about youth and young adults around the world.
