Channel Nine is facing a change as popular weathergirl Livinia Nixon announces her surprise departure from 9News Melbourne after 20 years. The cheerful personality has decided to step back from presenting the weather to focus on her family.
Livinia shared her reasons in a statement, saying,
“After 20 years presenting weather on 9News, I’ve decided to step back from this role. My sons will both be in high school and I want to be there to support them. It’s been a privilege to be welcomed into viewers’ homes for so long, but this is the right time for my family.”
She referred to her two sons, Henry and Ted, adding,
“Presenting the weather has shaped my life and career. I owe this role everything but this is the right decision for me. When I discussed it with our boys, they said ‘we’re pretty excited to spend more time with you, Mum.’”
Livinia first joined Nine in 1997 and gained popularity during her time on Hey Hey It’s Saturday, alongside Daryl Somers. Despite stepping back from weather presenting, she will remain with the network, continuing her roles on the travel shows Getaway and Postcards.
She expressed enthusiasm about staying with Nine:
“I’m thrilled to be staying with Nine and will be continuing my roles on Getaway and Postcards.”
After two decades of weather presenting at Nine, Livinia Nixon is prioritizing family while continuing her role in travel shows, marking a major shift in her career.
