Jim Belushi spoke exclusively with PEOPLE about a cherished memory from his early Hollywood days that involved his late brother, John Belushi. John, a comedian and musician best known for his iconic roles on Saturday Night Live and in The Blues Brothers, passed away in 1982 at the age of 33.
Starting in 1975, John quickly gained fame as an original cast member of Saturday Night Live. Alongside his costar Dan Aykroyd, he created the beloved characters "Joliet" Jake Blues and Elwood Blues, forming the musical act known as The Blues Brothers.
The duo first appeared as musical guests on SNL in April 1978. Later that year, after expanding the act to a full band, they opened for Steve Martin during a residency at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles in September 1978.
"Jim Belushi shared what he loved most about the period when he and his late brother were launching their careers," PEOPLE reported from the Song Sung Blue premiere at AFI Fest in Los Angeles on October 26.
