Prince Harry recently opened up about his thoughts on becoming a U.S. citizen, and his answer caught many off guard. It’s already been five years since he and Meghan Markle relocated to the United States after stepping back from royal duties. Since then, the couple has built a comfortable life in Montecito, California, producing content through Archewell Productions and enjoying family time with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Life in California appears to be treating them well. They’ve embraced local culture, supported community events, and managed to keep a balance between public work and private family moments. Their success with Netflix and other ventures reflects their evolving identity outside the British monarchy.
During an appearance on the podcast Hasan Minhaj Doesn’t Know, Prince Harry was asked directly about his plans for American citizenship in the “Royal Rapid Fire” segment.
“There are no plans to be, at this point,” Prince Harry said.
Born in London as a member of the British royal family, Harry continues to hold British citizenship. While many expected him to consider American citizenship after several years in the U.S., his response suggests it isn’t currently a priority.
Apart from citizenship considerations, Harry has fully embraced aspects of Californian life. Recently, he and Meghan were seen at Dodger Stadium on October 28, cheering for the Los Angeles Dodgers against the Toronto Blue Jays during Game 4 of the 2025 World Series. The couple appeared relaxed, simply enjoying a day among fans.
Prince Harry, though fully settled in the U.S., has no current plans to seek American citizenship, focusing instead on family life and personal freedom in California.
