Somerset Council is reminding eligible residents to get their flu vaccination if they haven't done so already. The best time to receive a flu jab is in autumn or early winter, before the virus begins to spread widely. This season, flu cases are already appearing.
Flu is more serious than a common cold. It can increase the risk of severe lung and airway infections like bronchitis and pneumonia, and may worsen existing health conditions.
“Protecting yourself means protecting others. With flu already circulating, now is the perfect time for those who are eligible. It’s quick, safe and helps stop the spread to those most at risk.”
— Councillor Graham Oakes, Executive Member for Public Health, Climate Change and Environment
Flu spreads easily and can sometimes lead to hospitalization or even death. Because the flu virus evolves every year, annual vaccination is necessary.
Taking the flu vaccine not only protects you but also helps safeguard those around you from serious health risks.
