The Roadrunners are marking their 15th football season in 2025. As one of the newer FBS programs and currently in their third year in the American Conference, UTSA’s journey from inception to national competitiveness has been remarkable.
UTSA launched its football program from scratch, holding a practice year in 2010 before debuting as an FCS Independent in 2011. The following year, they joined the Western Athletic Conference for the 2012 campaign. In 2013, UTSA transitioned to Conference USA and achieved full FBS membership in 2014.
In their inaugural 2011 season, the Roadrunners made NCAA modern startup history by attracting 56,743 fans to their first-ever game against Northeastern State. They also averaged 35,521 fans across six home contests that season.
“UTSA’s steady rise through the college football ranks highlights a program built on resilience, fan support, and consistent progress.”
UTSA’s 15-year journey reflects steady growth, record-setting fan support, and multiple championship seasons that firmly position the Roadrunners among competitive FBS programs.
