England’s Chief Nursing Officer has made an urgent call to everyone eligible for a flu vaccination to book their appointment as soon as possible. The aim is to ensure protection before the most severe stage of the flu season begins.
Deputy Chief Nursing Officer Duncan Burton recently warned that this year’s flu season began unusually early, raising particular concern over record-high flu cases among children and young people.
Reinforcing this message, the Chief Nursing Officer emphasized that only a few weeks remain before the flu season’s peak and urged quick action from those eligible. An additional 2.4 million vaccination slots will become available next week, according to NHS England.
Since the campaign launched in September, NHS England has reported over 13 million flu vaccinations administered nationwide. Around 59.4% of all care home residents are now protected, and 2.3 million eligible children have received their vaccines.
“It’s crucial that those eligible book their flu jab now before the worst of the season hits,” said England’s Chief Nursing Officer.
