A press conference in the Oval Office was abruptly interrupted when a drug executive fainted while President Donald Trump announced a deal with pharmaceutical companies to lower obesity drug prices.
The event, held on Thursday, involved Trump and representatives from Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk discussing an agreement to expand coverage and reduce costs for their obesity treatments, Zepbound and Wegovy.
During the remarks by David Ricks, CEO of Eli Lilly, the executive identified as Gordon Findlay, Novo Nordisk's global brand director, suddenly collapsed. Ricks asked,
“Are you okay? Gordon, are you okay?”
Dr. Mehmet Oz, Administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, quickly assisted as Findlay fell to his knees. Health and Human Services Secretary was also present during the incident.
The press was then asked to leave the room, and the press conference was temporarily halted.
About 30 minutes later, the press conference resumed with President Trump providing an update on Findlay’s condition.
“President Donald Trump looks on as Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz and others help Gordon Findlay of Novo Nordisk, who passed out during the event.”
Author’s summary: The sudden collapse of a drug executive during an Oval Office event briefly interrupted President Trump’s announcement on drug price reductions, with swift medical assistance and a prompt health update following.
