Kazakhstan to Join Abraham Accords

Washington, D.C. – The Government of Kazakhstan announced its plan to join the Abraham Accords ahead of a scheduled meeting between President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington.

President Trump described Kazakhstan’s decision as “a major step forward in building bridges across the world.”

He noted that a formal signing ceremony would take place soon to make the accession official. With this step, Kazakhstan will join the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco, Sudan, Israel, and the United States within the Abraham Accords framework.

The country’s inclusion marks a significant diplomatic milestone, as it becomes the first Central Asian nation and the only non–Middle Eastern or North African state besides the United States to participate in the initiative.

This expansion brings the Accords into Central Asia, demonstrating their increasing relevance beyond their original regional and political context. Kazakhstan’s decision sends a strong message from a Muslim-majority country advocating peaceful normalization with Israel.

By joining, Astana underscores the legitimacy of the Accords across the Islamic world and shows that constructive engagement with Israel can harmonize with respect for Islamic traditions and regional cooperation.
