Conservative MP Matt Jeneroux has announced his resignation from the House of Commons, stepping down as the representative for Edmonton-Riverbend. The announcement was made Thursday via a letter shared on social media, following widespread speculation about his political future and shortly after another Conservative MP switched parties.
“I ran in the last election hopeful that Canadians would put their faith in a team led by Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives. Although the outcome was not what I anticipated, I have great admiration for the many remarkable individuals who were elected to the House of Commons on both sides of the aisle.”
In the letter, Jeneroux said his focus must now turn entirely to his family and related responsibilities. He did not provide an exact date for his resignation.
“For now, my focus must turn entirely to my family and to the responsibilities that come with that.”
Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre responded online, indicating Jeneroux would remain in his MP role into 2026:
“On behalf of our Conservative team, I wish you and your family all the best following your decision to step down as MP next spring.”
Since first being elected in 2015, Jeneroux held several shadow cabinet positions related to health, housing, and infrastructure.
Matt Jeneroux announced his resignation as Edmonton-Riverbend MP, citing family priorities, amid speculation about his future and following recent party shifts within the Conservatives.
