Antonio Brown, a former Central Michigan University and NFL player, has been arrested and is facing an attempted murder charge, Miami Police confirmed.
The charge relates to a May 16 incident where Brown was briefly detained after shots were fired following a celebrity boxing event in Miami's Little Haiti neighborhood.
Brown stated on social media at the time: “I had been jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me.”
“Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me. I WENT HOME THAT NIGHT AND WAS NOT ARRESTED,” Brown wrote.
In June, an arrest warrant was issued for Brown, who was accused of grabbing a handgun from a security staffer and firing two shots at a man with whom he had previously fought.
The victim told investigators that a bullet grazed his neck.
Brown was arrested in Dubai and transported to Newark, New Jersey. Miami Police Chief Manuel Morales confirmed that Brown is currently in custody in Newark and will soon be extradited to Miami to face charges.
Morales said, “Let this serve as a clear message; no matter who you are or where you run, we will pursue the facts, identify you, locate you, and bring you to justice.”
Antonio Brown's arrest highlights law enforcement's commitment to pursuing justice regardless of an individual's status or location.
