Former NFL player Antonio Brown has been extradited from Dubai to the United States and will be transferred to Miami to face trial on an attempted murder charge. The case stems from a shooting that occurred outside a boxing event earlier this year.
The All-Pro wide receiver, known for his 12-year career primarily with the Pittsburgh Steelers, is accused of firing two shots at a man following a fight at an amateur boxing match in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood on May 16.
According to an arrest warrant issued in June, Brown appeared to grab “a black firearm from the right hip area” of a security official and fired at a man, later identified as Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu.
Authorities state that Brown had avoided returning to Florida since the shooting took place.
On Thursday, NBC Miami confirmed that the 37-year-old was extradited from Dubai, where he had allegedly been avoiding U.S. authorities. He was flown from Dubai to Newark, New Jersey, and booked into the Essex County Jail. A spokesperson for U.S. officials said he is expected to be moved to South Florida, but the schedule for his transfer remains uncertain.
Footage shared on social media shows Brown in a physical altercation during the boxing event. The event was hosted by online personality Adin Ross.
