Former India batter Robin Uthappa noted that Jasprit Bumrah tends to lose his rhythm when he tries too hard to take wickets. Uthappa connected Bumrah's rare off day in the second T20I against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) to this issue.
Speaking on Star Sports, Uthappa explained that Bumrah’s loss of discipline happens when he becomes desperate for wickets. This was evident in India's defense of a modest total of 125, which Australia chased easily.
"When we were bowling after scoring 125, the start was very important. If we had picked up two or three wickets in the first three or four overs, the game could have been closer because we have quality spinners in the middle overs. I felt we were probably trying too hard to pick up wickets. So we got a little wayward," Uthappa said.
Uthappa pointed out that Bumrah’s occasional wayward bowling often comes from his eagerness to strike early, affecting his usual rhythm and discipline.
Author's summary: Robin Uthappa attributes Jasprit Bumrah's off day at the MCG to an overzealous approach, where his desperation for wickets disturbed his rhythm and effectiveness.
