San Antonio — Spurs forward Julian Champagnie swapped his jersey for a Scooby-Doo costume this Halloween and made a surprise visit to Methodist Children’s Hospital. Joined by the Spurs' mascot Coyote, Champagnie handed out candy, posed for photos, and chatted with young patients, brightening up the hospital's festive celebration.
Every year, Methodist Children’s Hospital transforms with unique themes and elaborate decorations. Staff members also dress in costumes to match the occasion. One special tradition is reverse trick-or-treating, where hospital leadership visits each room to hand out treats to patients.
This year's event was even more memorable thanks to Champagnie’s visit and the presence of the Emergency Services Facility Dogs — Lady, Fresca, and Chanel — dressed as a surgeon, witch, and spider, respectively.
“I didn’t make a wish, but it felt like one. It was inspirational to see the actual walking dream. I didn’t think I was this special, but he made me feel like I was.”
“I appreciate the hospital for giving me this opportunity. For him to stop by and show some love meant so much to me. It’s hard to describe.” — Jamal Magee, patient
