British celebrity chef Rick Stein spends part of the year in Australia and has discovered several local spots he now visits regularly, including an unassuming hidden gem.
Rick Stein highlighted some favourite places in Sydney for casual dining and classic pub fare. Both his preferred takeaway and pub are located in Neutral Bay, just streets apart.
For a quick meal, Rick’s pick is the small Japanese restaurant Tobikiri, tucked away on a quiet street behind Military Road.
“I love Tobikiri, a tiny husband-and-wife Japanese restaurant in Neutral Bay with about 10 tables,” Rick told Broadsheet. “It’s amazing what a husband and wife and one waiter can do.”
Tobikiri is a hidden treasure offering traditional Japanese dishes. It receives high praise online, with locals calling it “a great little authentic restaurant.”
Rick Stein appreciates genuine culinary experiences in intimate settings, demonstrating that big flavours often come from modest places.
