‘On the Beach’: Aussie Slugger’s Bigger Aims

Australian batsman Tim David insists his massive six in Hobart traveled beyond the record measurement it was officially given. He shared his long-term goal to “face more balls” and become a key weapon for Australia in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

After nearly clearing the stadium with a six at Bellerive Oval, David outlined his ambitions ahead of the tournament. He scored 74 runs from 38 balls against India, but noted that the match had limited influence on World Cup preparation because pitches in India vary “depending on who they are playing.”

Record-Breaking Six and Batting Strategy

David hit five sixes in the match, including one measured at a huge 129 meters—the longest recorded six in T20 international history and also Fox Cricket’s biggest ever broadcasted six. The ball struck a stadium sign on the grandstand roof, preventing what might have been an even longer hit.

“It’s good fun hitting balls on the roof. I haven’t seen any balls up there and I haven’t hit any up there,” David said, referencing his experience hitting sixes in Hobart for the Hurricanes in the BBL. “I was hoping it would land on the beach. It hit the top rung of that little advertising sign. I’m always dubious about the measurements.”

David is embracing a promotion up the batting order, part of Australia’s aggressive approach aimed at achieving World Cup success.
