William Eklund will sit out his second consecutive game Wednesday as the San Jose Sharks face the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena. The Sharks aim to extend their season-long point streak to four games despite Eklund's absence.
Eklund, tied for second on the Sharks with 11 points, stayed behind as the team traveled to Seattle Tuesday afternoon. He continues to recover from a lower-body injury that also sidelined him for Sunday’s 3-2 shootout loss to the Detroit Red Wings.
“He has had the injury for over a week and is considered day-to-day but is trending in the right direction,”
said Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky.
Warsofsky is uncertain whether Eklund will be placed on injured reserve, with upcoming home games against the Winnipeg Jets on Friday and the Florida Panthers on Saturday.
The 23-year-old forward was showcasing some of the best hockey of his NHL career recently. Between October 23 and 30, Eklund accumulated four goals and five assists.
He, alongside Alexander Wennberg and winger Philipp Kurashev, formed the Sharks’ most dependable line—known for both scoring and containing opposing teams’ top lines.
In the Sharks’ 3-2 overtime victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday, Eklund played nearly 21 minutes.
Summary: William Eklund’s injury sidelines one of the Sharks’ key players as the team faces the Kraken, but his strong recent form highlights his value when healthy.
